About Enrollment

Birth - 4 Enrollment

Early childhood enrollment in New Orleans aims to provide families with access to high-quality early learning and childcare options for infant to Pre-K 4 learners. NOLA-PS manages a unified enrollment system in partnership with organizations like Agenda for Children and NOEEN, guiding families through available programs such as publicly funded childcare centers, Head Start, and public school preschools.

Eligibility for enrollment varies based on factors like income, residency, and the child's age, with publicly funded programs often prioritizing low-income families or those with specific needs. Required verification documents include proof of income, residency, and birth certificates to secure placement in these programs. To support families, NOLA-PS organizes events that explain the enrollment process, assist with applications, and provide document verification. These efforts help make the enrollment process more accessible and equitable.

Kindergarten - Grade 12 Enrollment

New Orleans has a unique school system where the majority of our schools are public charter schools. NOLA-PS is the authorizer for Type 1 and Type 3 charter schools. NOLA-PS is also directly operating a school under Orleans Parish School Board as the Local Education Agency (LEA) during the 24-25 school year.

Even though charter schools are operated by individual Charter Management Organizations (CMOs), the district manages enrollment and applications for all NOLA-PS schools through a unified enrollment system. The NOLA-PS enrollment system includes Type 1 and Type 3 schools, which are authorized locally by the Orleans Parish School Board (OPSB), and Type 2 schools, which are authorized by the Louisiana State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE).
